Ode to Care and Support Workers for Elders
Until you arrive each morning
I cannot move for pain.
You can be the balm, the smile, the few kind words
That help me face the world again,
Unless, with thought and care,
You prepare good food,
My body can’t repair
And the pain stays there.
Unless you see me as an individual
Who has contributed
And whose life still has meaning,
I am diminished and you are too.
Unless I value you
And the work you do
We cannot connect
And the trust goes too.
Unless you and I both know
That we share a past and a future
Simply by being human,
We diminish ourselves and each other.
